Angus O'tool's Irish Pub and Restaurant

In Karon Beach, across from the Centara Resort, is this family-style pub & restaurant/guesthouse. The proprietor, Maurice, is the chef and his menu offers guests all their English favorites including a big all-day breakfast menu that would satisfy any hungry lumberjack.

My brother and I were staying at the Centara Resort and were about to take a walk to explore some of Karon Beach when we stopped by this pub. After a quick look, and a review of the menu, we agreed to have something to eat. The only problem was if we'd choose breakfast or not ...we decided to do just that. Ok, I couldn't resist the Big Breakfast with so many things on the plate it was more like a feast than a normal plate of food. My brother enjoyed a mushroom omelette that was prepared with four eggs. So after a couple mugs of English tea we were off for our adventure. It wasn't long that we were talking about our return to this place and as the afternoon passed we had walked quite a bit and worked-up a good appetite.

We returned before 7PM, sat down, and started chatting with a couple guys (from Sydney). One of them was eating Guinness Beef and Oysters and the other was enjoying a huge 200 gram Burger made with Australian beef that comes with onion rings. They said they stay at O'tool's partly because the food is so good and they don't have to get dressed-up to eat a nice meal. He was right, my brother and I were wearing shorts and t-shirts. We started with an order of Spring Rolls to go with our beer and then I decided on the Lamb Shank - braised with rosemary and soy sauce and served atop mashed potatoes while my brother chose the Grilled Red Snapper. There are soups, salads, and some feature dishes and daily specials on the menu along with pasta and pizza. So be it, there is a limited choice of only 6 or 7 New World wines, but this is a pub, and what's better to go with pub grub than a nice cold Dark Irish Guinness.
