This Italian trattoria sits on the ground floor of a townhouse next to Silom Village. Granite and wood are used with white walls adorned with black & white photos with soft lighting to set the mood. The owner, Tony, previously worked for his brother Sam and his TV personality wife "Yanni", who were the original owners of Scoozi. Tony worked as the diningroom manager of the restaurant.
After our first visit in 2005 we decided to re-visit to see how things have progressed. Some accomplishments of the restaurant in the past couple of years is reflected in the food and service. The complimentary focaccia bread with various toppings, such as, garlic, onion, mushroom and oregano is baked on-site and a nice introduction to the meal. Starters include a typical pan-fried duck liver with raspberry sauce accompanied by rocket salad. It may not be what first comes to mind for traditional Italian, nor is there anything original about the dish, however, it is found, more often than not, at Italian and French restaurants in Bangkok. The antipasto della casa is a delicious mix of Italian appetizers while the signature dish is home-made ravioli, filled with imported porcini mushrooms and topped with a cream of truffle sauce. It was very good but didn't excite me enough to return to the restaurant just for this dish but if you're a fan of either ravioli or porcini mushrooms it may be worth it. Another signature dish is the Australian char-grilled rack of lamb served with potatoes and assorted vegetables. The taste was quite familiar as I ate what I'm sure was the same dish at his brother's restaurant "Scoozi" a few years back. For dessert, the panna cotta with pistachio sauce cooked in a double cream is predictable but pretty good. The wine menu is adequate with mostly Italian and Australian wines, very similar to what was available during our first visit, but unfortunately, not extensive enough to offer some of the exciting and creative wines for the palate that continually become available in Bangkok. reviewed by jo
