Set in a delightful wooden sala on the top floor of a boutique hotel in Patong, Baan Yin Dee offers guests a relaxing atmosphere with its rattan chairs, potted plants and sweeping terrace views of Patong Bay.
From a nice choice of about 10 starters my friend Peter chose the Duck Foie Gras -Pan-fried duck liver on shitake mushroom, green apple and vanilla, while the Smoked Salmon Package - Thin slice smoked salmon stuffed with white prawn and mango served with Caesar dressing was his wifes choice. There is also, of course, a Phuket Rock Lobster Salad - Salad of Phuket rock lobster tossed with dried Serrano ham and mango but I chose a more typical standard, the Caesar Salad. It arrived with fresh crisp romaine lettuce tossed with a nice Caesar dressing served with crisp bacon, parmesan shaving and garlic bread. From the soup selection, we all enjoyed the Lobster Bisque - a lobster soup flavored with aroma of basil and cognac.
The main dishes start with fish and seafood selections and the Salmon Fillet with Duxelles of oyster mushroom offers a Pan-fried salmon fillet flavored with lobster herb sauce and duxelles of oyster mushroom and a bouquet of asparagus while the Tiger Prawn Skewer has grilled tiger prawn with lemongrass herb butter, leek, celery and zucchini. There are a few choices of poultry dishes and then come the chef's recommendations. Now the choices become more difficult as there are many excellent dishes to select from. They include the Rosemary Grilled Lamb Rack, the Grilled Veal Tenderloin, the Grilled Pork Tenderloin with a raspberry sauce, and Chateaubrian for two and this was the choice for my friend Peter and his wife that joined me for the evening. The char-grilled double beef tenderloin with a bearnaise sauce and vegetable was not to disappoint. From the grill, I chose the Australian T-bone (400 gr.) which came with the daily potato and vegetables. The steak was prepared perfectly and from the choice of 5 sauces, I think I did well by selecting the 3 peppercorn sauce. We were more than satisfied with our meal but couldn't resist ending it with dessert. We decided to share a couple different desserts and we chose the Home-made Dark Chocolate Mousse and the Grand Marnier Flambe - Crepes filled with fresh fruit and grand Marnier flambe. Wow, what a way to end a great evening.
