Legendary for its live jazz since 1946, it's a film noir type setting, a sort of Rick's Cafe of the Orient, and you half-expect Bogart to wander in with a babe on his arm. Skilled bartenders make every spectacular cocktail from the Mai Tai to the martini. Decor is that jungle theme but you'll find leather sofas and plush chairs amongst all the bamboo and palm fronds.
This Bangkok landmark is a symbol of past glories of the East. Situated in Thailand's first hotel and often referred to as one of the top hotels in the world, the 51 year old bar oozes of class, sophistication, and style. Can't afford to stay at the Oriental Hotel? Well, you can't afford to miss their Bamboo Bar when in Bangkok. It offers some fantastic jazz, however, it's not just the musical talent of their famous Russian jazz-band that guests enjoy so much but an ambiance that takes you back to the era of Bogie and all those early intriquing picture shows you have seen. If there ever was a setting like in those movies of a far off exotic place in an atmosphere of beautiful women in a low lit bar with an interior that invokes the African Safari that reeks of pure class and sophistication with excellent service and fantastic mixed drinks, this is the place. Don't fret about the prices of the mixed drinks because everything else in Bangkok is so cheap this is one time you should enjoy yourself. Anyway, if you prefer, you can enjoy the atmosphere with only a Heineken or Singha in your hand but when you're in Bangkok this is a place not to be missed.
The Russian jazz band has performed here for ages and is usually balanced by the sultry sounds of a talented songstress. Perfectly mixed cocktails by old-school bartenders are served by a superb staff ...It is a one-time Bangkok experience that should be considered a must on your next visit.
