Basilico’s Pizzeria is located on Sukhumvit soi 33, soi 20 and on Phahon Yothin soi 7. Basilico’s offers a vibrantly authentic Italian dining experience in Bangkok and its glass windows and central wood-fired oven gives it an al fresco feel. In my opinion great service enables it to stand head and shoulders above its nearest Italian competitors in Bangkok. It was packed when my party of 2 arrived on a Friday evening so I highly recommend making a reservation. Even the most ardent pizza lovers will be spoilt for choice and whatever combination of fresh ingredients are chosen, the eucalyptus wood-fired oven, the perfectly prepared and browned tomato sauce smeared base are highly impressive. If pizzas aren't your thing the menu also includes Pastas, Lamb, Veal etc. along with over 40 different red wines.
We shared a Pizza Salami which combined well with a glass of Pinot Greggio white wine from Italy and my guest enjoyed an exquisite Lychee Daquiri. What blew my mind was the sauce made to a carefully guarded recipe from Italian and local tomatoes. I sprinkled some crushed red chili on it to spice it up and savored the best pizza experience I have been fortunate to devour during my 5 years in Thailand.
We then moved on to the Parmigiana Si Melanzane Alla Napoletana which is deep fried eggplant with fresh tomato, buffala mozzarella cheese, and basil; along with the Involtini Di Vitello Alla Trentino which is a pan fried veal rolled in spinach, feta cheese, and butter sage sauce. Both were totally scrumptious. This was evidenced by the spotless plates that they came on after we had finished with them!
We tried the lamb chops cooked in a red wine sauce medium rare, the succulence of the meat was satisfying to say the least. Pasta has recently been polled as the world's favorite food and, although my belt was beginning to unbuckle, we tried a special one named Fettucini Capesatate Frutti Di Mare which is a homemade Squid Ink Fettucini with mussels, shrimp, and clams combined together in an olive oil white wine sauce. The mussels were gigantic and tastily fresh from the sea.
At this point, our hunger well and truly sated, we opted to share a Tiramisu for the that was sweet and moist. This was a pleasantly sweet way to end the meal and the more than a hint of rum was very welcome. All in all, the regular crowd that Basilico’s attracts tells its own story. Two thumbs up on service, food, and atmosphere! I would like to express a Wondrous Admiration and heartfelt compliments to the chef and a strong respect for the incomparably attentive service. The vibrant atmosphere and convenient locations are the other factors that add up to Basilico's being the quintessential Bangkok Italian dining experience.
