Easy to find, the restaurant sits across from Mike's Shopping Mall, in the Central Shopping Arcade on Second Road. Big Horn Steak House is well known for their "1kg steak" that, if eaten, gets you a place in the Big Horn Steak House Club and your name on the wall with a list of more than 500 other carnivore club members.

The story of how they began briefly goes like this: In 1873 a hunter named Bjorn Hornseter immigrated from Hornindal to America. After a buffalo hunt, him and his friends went into a small town to sell buffalo skins where he stopped in a saloon and had a steak served with corn on the cob and potatoes ...he was in heaven. He married the waitress, bought the saloon and called it Big Horn Saloon & Steak House. Years went by when in Oslo, Norway a man found a coffin from America. Inside was a rifle, food recipes and books about tenderizing and cooking beef. He was inspired and started the first Big Horn Steak House in Oslo, Norway. It was a success and he got a couple of his friends to open their own Big Horn and the rest is history.

My friend Gary and I arrived to find our girlfriends waiting for us. We had a seat and ordered a beer. There is also about 10 red wines from various countries and house wine at 95 baht a glass plus a good selection of bar drinks. The menu offers dishes other than steaks and there is even a complete selection of Thai dishes. My girlfriend chose the "Phad Prik Yuak", stir-fried pork with garlic & pepper while the other girl chose "Phad Pak Ruam, stir-fried vegetables in oyster sauce. Gary and I were hungry and we were here to do some damage. We each chose an appetizer. I had the "Norwegian Salmon", served on toast with a special mustard sauce. Gary had the "Shrimp Cocktail", nice size shrimps served in a cocktail glass. For a main dish, from about 30 different selections, I had the "BBQ Tenderloin" in the 400g size. Choices of steak sauce include; mushroom, pepper, white wine, bearnaise, garlic butter and chorong sauce and with that you select the type of potato as well. Gary selected the "Three Fillets", which was a tenderloin, a pork fillet, and a chicken fillet and served with three sauces.

  • Norwegian Salmon
  • Shrimp Cocktail
  • BBQ Tenderloin
  • 3 Fillets-Tenderloin, Pork & Chicken
