About 500 foot down Thong Lo soi 9, on the right side, is Harvey's restaurant. It is also easily accessible from Sukhumvit soi 53. Parking is limited to 20 cars but there is free valet parking. The eatery features a 100-seat main dining room with a corner dedicated to a casual and perhaps more private gathering along with a separate smoking area. Leather chairs, white tablecloths and sparkling glass provide a classic dining atmosphere with contemporary cutlery and table accessories plus wireless Internet that lend a modern twist. On the second floor are three plasma equipped private rooms. The largest, which can host up to 30 guests, has an al fresco area for outdoor lounging.

Harvey's California-style cuisine is known for its use of fresh and healthy ingredients such as figs, avocados, artichokes, citrus fruits and mushrooms fused with Chinese, Japanese and Mexican styles - reflecting the diversity of the multi-cultural American state. First up, I tried the appetizer of seafood, and for 450 baht it featured fresh grilled rock lobster and giant scallop on balsamic and dill sauce with fennel and pomelo salad. My dining partners were excited about their choice for an appetizer, the pan-fried foie gras at 790 baht which presented two pieces of perfectly fried goose liver atop mashed chestnuts. Served with raspberry and peach sauce and rocket leaves with balsamic dressing. My friends then chose the mascarpone cheese 320 baht and pumpkin soup alongside red bell pepper cream soup, while I opted for the clam chowder for 450 baht which was equally delicious.

For main courses, we would chose to share each dish, and the first was paella seafood at 590 baht. Its saffron rice with scallop, mussel, clam and langoustine was excellent and equally tasty was tuna tartar with ginger and fresh pomelo alongside a zesty wasabi mayonnaise sauce and generously topped with salmon roe. The rack of lamb features a pair of charcoal-grilled racks of Australian lamb with thyme sauce. To be fair, my two friends aren't big meat eaters, so it was no surprise that the baked sole fillet at 420 baht was a real hit. Served on a bed of sauted spinach with caper lemon sauce, the baby sole fillet was as pleasing to the eye as it was to the palate.

There was no way we weren't going to complete our meal without dessert and we would again share each of our picks. We ordered two mille feuilles strawberries at 390 baht, layers of black chocolate, white chocolate cream and fresh strawberries served with strawberry sauce, and one chocolate fondant at 390 baht, a molten chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream. I can only say they were delectable.

Harvey's cellar claims to offer 400 selections of red wines and 200 labels of white. No need to byo here, the list offers some very reasonable wines to choose from.
