Horizon II River Cruises Shangri la Hotel

Located at the Horizon II Riverboat Pier at the Shangri-la hotel sits this lovely remodeled river cruise vessel. The dress code is casual and The Horizon II accommodates both smokers and non-smokers. The servers manned the bar and gave a good commentary on the more important sites along the river as we passed each of the more popular sites. There are two cruises available on the HorizonII. The first being the Ayuttaya Cruise which includes a bus ride that starts at 8AM to visit three temples and a palace. The day then moves on to the HorizonII where an International lunch buffet is served and the trip back to Bangkok is a pleasure cruise down the river. The cost for the day cruise is 1,900 baht net. This cruise is offered Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. The dinner cruise serves an International buffet for 2,200 baht net per person with coffee or tea included and is offered daily with the cruise lasting for about 2 hours.Our dining experience was a pleasure with a couple exceptions and that was that people seemed to all rush to the buffet line when the food was ready to be served. Guests were rubbing shoulders just to get to the food, I guess in fear, it may all be gone before they got to it. If you are the type of person that likes to take bite-size portions of food items to see which you really prefer before going back for more then this occasion would make you feel pressured to eat fast with the fear of having insufficient food. In reality, the food items were all refilled with the exception of the chocolates and there was more than enough for everybody.Since it was a Sunday night, it seemed there were more than the usual amount of families with little kiddies so there was no ambiance of a romantic cruise with the little ones making a fuss and if you were on the top deck dining al fresco, it was even less comforatable with guests interrupting their privacy to take photos or coming outside to enjoy the evening breeze.
