Papa John Grill Restaurant

My wife and I drove from our hotel in Central Hua Hin to Papa John Grill Restaurant which is less than 10 minutes south, not very far past the Hyatt Regency. It sits on the right side of the road and there is plenty of parking.

As you enter the restaurant, there's an open-air area with casual seating next to the bar which is kinda like a beer garden which is separated from the open-air dining room. The is also an enclosed air-conditioned room that accommodates 24 persons.

The menu starts with appetizers offering 18 choices that includes; Shrimp Satee with 3 sauces, Smoked Salmon with Papaya Salad, a Pomelo Salad with Shrimps, Tuna Salad served in Pineapple with Tomatoes & Onion along with a couple we selected that were the Bruschetta with Cheese and the Baked Scallops with Cheese & Garlic Bread. The menu offers 8 soups, both International and Thai-style. The Lobster Soup with Shrimps is offered at only 110 baht while there is also Glass Noodle & Pork Soup, Tom Yam Goong, a spicy prawn soup with lemongrass & chilli and Tom Kha Gai which is chicken soup with coconut milk & herbs.

The choice goes on to a selection of 16 Thai dishes and 3 Thai set menus. Some of the popular Thai dishes are: Fried Broccoli with Crispy Pork, Crab Meat in Curry Powder, Crispy Duck Breast with Papa John Sauce prepared in Thai-Chinese style, and Fried Pork or Chicken with Red Curry Sauce.

Pizzas are offered on the menu and you can build your own. They start with the basic tomato sauce and cheese and patrons can add their choice of ingredients, including: Salami, Ham, Bacon, Tuna, Shrimps, Anchovies, Gorgonzola, Mushrooms, Onions, Olives, and Pineapple.

Pasta offers 6 types of spaghetti, a couple types of tagliatelle, such as; Tagliatelle with Shrimps in Saffron Creme Sauce and a couple dishes of penne, including; Penne with Salmon, Cream Sauce & Vodka.

International Cuisine offers 15 dishes, including Chicken Breast stuffed with Ham & Cheese and Mustard Sauce, Veal Medallions with toppings of Mozzarella, and Ostrich Breast Fillets with Pepper Sauce. For a main course, my wife chose the Duck Breast Fillets with Orange Sauce & Croquettes. There are also 6 BBQ items, including; Spare-Ribs, Mixed Sausage, Lamb Chops and a Lamb Rack.

Steaks are a favorite and offer a NZ Beef Skewer, NZ Fillet in 200g, 250g, and 300g size, Chateaubriand for 2, an Argentinian Rib-eye and my choice for a main course, the Argentinian 550g T-Bone. All dishes are served with potato and your choice of sauce while there is a nice choice of side dishes.

From the sea, there are White Snapper Fillets either grilled, fried, or steamed and Salmon prepared in a couple different cooking styles while Rock Lobster Thermidor is baked with cheese, boiled potato & vegetable and a choice of King Prawns is available either grilled or stir-fried.

Drinks offer 35 cocktails, beers, soft drinks, juices, shakes, cider and more. The wine list offers a couple very reasonably priced house wines and a selection of about twenty free-world wines. We chose an Argentinian varietal that has a deep dark red fruity, soft & smooth mouth filling taste with an endless finish that was full of aroma and went perfectly with our meat dishes. My T-Bone offered a generous fillet and the taste was great and would be satisfying to any carnivore.

It wasn't easy, but we couldn't resist dessert as there was a choice of fancy ice cream, banana fritters, pancakes and crepes with fruits and we chose a Chocolate Sundae and the Sweet Boat.
