Just minutes from the Ari BTS station and 100 meters in from PhahonYothin on Soi 5 sits the modern uplifting Asian fusion restaurant “Tanyamama The Second Spoon.” The exterior has a botanical garden feel to it with plants surrounding the entrance and seating area. The interior has a western modern design similar to New York with a vibrant exposed brick wall and Long black couch in the front dining room along with large round glob lamps hanging from the ceiling illuminating the first floor dining area. This three story town house has been expanded from a Café into a two story restaurant with a clothing store on the third floor. Owner and clothing designer Tanya Tansaringkan teamed up with Chef Nokveedz 7 months ago to create this upscale cozy and relaxing restaurant.
My colleague and I reserved a table on a Saturday as we had been advised froma friend that it could be fully booked if we were just to walk in. We were greeted by the smiling staff and seated in the back room on lounge chairs in front of a large photo of New York’s central park. The menu is very artistic and unique with a wide variety of beverages (mocktails, cocktails, international beers, wines, champagne) western food, Asian fusion salads, Uniquely created seafood dishes, and a fine selection of pastries and desserts including homemade ice cream and brownies.
We opted to start off with two salads and two cocktails. First up was the S.O.S. salad created from white carrot, carrot, prawn caviar, salmon caviar, cucumber, crabstick, over radish with a wasabi dressing. The waitress stirred up the ingredients on the plate to create truly tangy tasting salad. The prawn cavier complimented the salad with a taste of salt. While sipping on two sweet and sour tasting cocktails made from lychee, limejuice, grapes and vodka we were ready for our second salad. We went for the Tanyamama salad, a Mediterranean style organic delight made from Baby spinach and beetroot topped with a smokey concoction of Thousand Island dressing giving it a splendid taste.
Then it was time to try some seafood so I chose two. First was the 2na platter: a tasty creation of seared Ahituna rolled in white tarot with herbs and special Japanese onion sauce inside topped with seaweed. These tuna rolls are similar to sushi. Since, I love sashimi and sushi this was just my cup of tea. Second, we had the fresh red snapper and it was baked just right retaining the juices for a tender and delicious taste along with some fried vegetables.
Now it was time to taste some western food, so next up was the Love Lamb from New Zealand. Grilled medium rare, juicy and tender, it melted right in my mouth. To compliment it the cook prepared some creamy mashed potatoes with a wonderful tasting gravy. Definitely will order this again next time as I can’t forget the taste!
As our bellies were about to burst. It was dessert time and the Chocolate Lava cake was not to be skipped along with the homemade vanilla ice cream. As I cut the cake with my fork warm chocolate syrup flowed out onto my plate. It was so sweet, moist and filling, I could see why it would be a great place to come to have sweets. Not to forget the ice cream freshly made with a strong taste of vanilla to cleanse the palette. Our dining experience was uplifting and very relaxing with electronic lounge music playing in the background. I would like to extend a special thanks to Tanya, her friendly staff, and to Chef Nokveedz for an exceptional dining experience. 10+++ for Tanyamama. Well done!
