Away from the main streets and all the hustle and bustle, this lovely French restaurant is easily accessible via the BTS or MRT with a short walk to the restaurant while patrons arriving by car will find the parking lot more than adequate.
The restaurant, with its casual Mediterranean ambience is part wine bar, part brassiere, with soft yellow walls, starched table covers nicely appointed with casual seating and soft background music.
French bistros are so au courant these days but you'll find this place to be authentically French while the menu bends a few rules. The kitchen is overseen by chef Jeremy Lasserre with cuisine reminiscent of Southern France and the Mediterranean. It isn't vast but the menu offers more than enough items to satisfy the palate while the wine list is an enjoyable surprise consisting of a diverse range of both red and white new world wines. From a list of almost 50 wines, we chose a Beaujolais at only 1390 baht to start our evening.
From a choice of six starters, my three dining partners and I chose the imported frog legs in garlic butter at 390 baht, an enjoyable way to begin the meal, along with a couple orders of the pan-fried foie gras served with caramelized green apple, rocket salad, and parmesan plus the smoked salmon salad with capers and chopped onion.
For soups, we chose to each select a different soup so we could each taste all our choices. I selected the lobster bisque while my dining partner chose pumpkin soup. Our two friends chose the onion soup with cheese croutons and the mushroom soup with truffle foam. The winner was the mushroom ...a hit with everybody.
For salad, we chose to share two selections. The first; rocket salad with tomato confit with roasted pine nuts, parmesan, and balsamic dressing. The other salad was green asparagus, tomatoes & mixed baby leaves with a truffle dressing.
There are 6 choices of pasta that includes Spaghetti with Spicy Sausage and shitake mushrooms in an Italian white wine sauce that was selected as a main course by one of our friends. My girlfriends choice for a main course was a dish from the 5 selections of fish and shellfish. Not sure whether to select the baked red snapper with truffle and saffron risotto or the pan-fried Atlantic Halibut with grilled vegetables in a pesto virgin sauce, the latter proved to be the perfect choice. At only 490 baht the imported halibut was delightfully tender, so fresh that it would melt in your mouth. From the meat category, my friend selected the Boeuf Bourguignon, a slow-cooked Australian beef in red wine at only 490 baht and I chose the Pan-fried Duck Confit with sauteed spinach & roasted diced potatoes. I made the right choice …fried with light crispy skin, it was perfect.
Each couple decided to share a dessert. While our friends chose the Tarte Ae Citron, a yellow lemon tarte, my girlfriend and I chose the Warm Chocolate Fondant with vanilla ice cream and raspberry sauce. Absolutely delicious. It was a debauchery of the palate …a perfect way to finish off the evening. |
