The ratings seen on a
restaurant webpage reflects objective ratings and reviews of “trusted” diners.
The published ratings are first
reviewed by our staff and are free of commercial ties to any restaurants even-though
many restaurants may have paid for some type
of webpage or banner development on our website. In 3 categories - Food, Drink,
and Service, we use bars and ½ bar symbols to rate
restaurant values. This gives each restaurant 10 possible levels. Five bars (a
value of ten) is the highest value and ½ bar (a value of 1)
is the lowest. Such as; 3½ bars will equal a bar value of 7. Price is often
notated by text. The values of the price ratings are listed
below.
The Ten Bar Awards are based on our precision point survey system measuring
food, drink and service.
are not intended to harm any restaurant, but to reflect the expressions of the
satisfaction of diners experiences.
Food – “Bars” award the overall food
value noting food quality, freshness of ingredients, temperature
and presentation. Is the chef inspired? Is cooking consistent? Is the menu
of wide enough range to satisfy a range of diners? The food value is
weighted more heavily. Health points may be added or subtracted to the
food category based on our reviewers experiences and observations of the
restaurant, such as; overall cleanliness or a brief visit to the kitchen
or bathroom.
Drinks – The
“Bars” show a value reflected by the quality of each drink as
well as the quantity of red wines offered by the establishment. The
number of selections of quality red
wines that are required to meet a value are shown on the Rating Index.
Pubs may not be included in this rating system as they may specialize in beers,
etc.
Service - The “Bars” award for service represents both the wait
staff & management's service ability, sense of control, latitude of basic
and gracious service, attention to differing needs and the ability to
communicate well with patrons. The hallmark of fine service has a calming
effect on “atmosphere” which is taken into consideration in this category.
Atmosphere is completed by comfortable furnishings, interesting views or
interior settings, good table wear, fresh flowers, candlelight, room design,
and music.
