Just about an 8 minute walk down Sukhumvit Soi 33 sits Cafe Buongiorno. It offers a nice ambiance provided by a free-standing former home surrounded by a garden and even a pond. The garden area is a nice place to sit and relax for drinks or while enjoying a meal.
The emphasis here is definitely on the quality of the food and not family-style plate covering of the dishes as the food is presented more like what is found in uptown hotels. Portions may not be large but there are some great choices to be had. A popular starter, the Antipasto Italiano, offers prosciutto and melon, along with other meats and cheeses all prepared with quality ingredients. The Chicken Caesar Salad is superb, with nice chunks of bacon and parmesan shavings and walnuts. Some of the other favorite dishes include; Veal alla Milanese is nicely breaded, with chopped tomatoes topping twin thin cutlets, alongside a cucumber salad. There is also Snow fish with lemon and rosemary that comprises two fillets under a creamy and mild sauce, next to whipped spinach. Another quality dish is Seabass with capers. Also, the Scaloppine al Lomone should not be missed. Other dishes we found fairly typical are the Tris di pasta, the Italian sausage, mussels "arrabiata" and the Meat Lasagna. Most standard Italian desserts are available to complete your meal.
Wine choices are adequate with all 40 red and whites being Italian choices that are separated by region. If you select to BYO there is a 300 baht corkage charge. We found the staff pleasant and attentive while prices depend of course on menu choices but 2 persons can generally dine, without wine, for about 2,000 baht. |
