Cafe Deco opened in 1994 and the idea was to create a unique, landmark restaurant
on the Peak. The restaurant's sheer glass walls are all that stand between the diner and
spectacular views of the world overlooking Hong Kong's busy harbor &
world famous skylines more inspiring than any picture postcard. They
house one of Hong Kong's largest collection's of original Art Deco. The striking light wood columns
and oversized art deco lamps fit the mood.
The restaurant's two levels are linked by a spiral staircase offering 15,000 square feet of dining. In addition, there is
an outdoor dining terrace on the lower level, a long Deco Bar on the upper level and live entertainment six evenings a week.
The International menu features Asian & Western cuisines. Expect to find
everything from freshly prepared sushi, homemade pizzas to Hong Kong's largest selection of jet-oysters, Indian tandoori
specialties and curries, salads, sandwiches and noodles, much of which is prepared in open show kitchens that rival the view for your
attention. The kitchens serve a truly global gastronomic experience with Chinese, Indonesian, Japanese (don't miss the spectacular foie
gras maki with mango and avacado or the Japanese platter with fresh salmon sushi, California rolls, and
oysters). Their French inspired rack of lamb is a pleasantly memorable dish with shallots stewed in red wine, rosemary infused potato
and kumara gratin and a perfect rosemary, onion and bacon sauce drizzled overtop. There are Thai and Italian influenced salad options and Western
dishes, such as the classic Caesar salad and a house specialty of certified Angus beef, served with a powerful pepper gravy and a mix of sauteed vegetables.
Not many standard sparkling wines or Italian choices offered but there is a generous selection of reasonably priced New World wines along with some good Bordeaux.
Waiters are fast on their feet and attentive. They are efficient, polite and have a good sense of the extensive menu. Expect to pay around $425HK for a three-course meal. |
