Cilantro is located right in the middle of KL city, behind the US embassy, in the Micasa All Suites Hotel. It claims to be a Contemporary French restaurant with Japanese influences, but I would beg-to-differ as during my visit it was more inclined to be French and Japanese fusion with as many ingredients Asian, as from anywhere elsewhere. Ambiance is low-key and quiet and if you enjoy well-ironed tablecloths at your dining table, you will certainly be satisfied here.

This restaurant is famous for its very reasonably priced Friday lunch where a different set menu is offered every week with appetizer, soup, main course, and dessert, plus accompanying wine for each dish. Not to add a sour note; we did find one uncomfortable fact. When making a reservation for the Friday set lunch the restaurant has a policy of getting your credit card details, including the CVV number on your card!! If you don't turn up, 50% of the set lunch cost would be charged to your credit card. Nevertheless, every Friday, the restaurant is fully booked.

The menu offers a "symphony of hors d'oeurves", a sampler that even includes venison. The "herb crusted rack of lamb" is a stand-out example of superb cuisine even in its simple state with the meat prepared to perfection with a delicate sauce. The "wagyu beef" is another dish that carnivores will rave about while fish lovers will appreciate the "roasted black cod with cuttlefish and truffle sauce" or the "ohtoro of tuna with tonburi and wakame".

If there is room for dessert here, do indulge, as the "chocolate cup cake" is divine and for something less heavy, try the "tea-green souffle".
