How our e-Guide rates restaurants
Type of Cuisine/Specialties
Each
restaurant has specified the type of cuisine it serves and we have mentioned a
few house specialties. These dishes are normally served, although their
availability may be subject to periodic menu changes and seasonal variations. If
there is a particular dish, or something specific about how you would like your
meal prepared, tell your request to your server, as kitchen staff are usually
very accommodating.
Map Reference
Many of the Bangkok restaurants or
hotels have supplied a map for easy directions.
Dress Code
An indication of suitable attire
at each restaurant is listed. In most cases, dining out for dinner is a “Smart
Casual” affair which means: No shorts or flip-flops.
Set Meals/Buffets
Many restaurants serve set meals
at either breakfast, lunch, and, or dinner, as well as, buffets. This is noted
in each case and is listed in our “set-meal” and/or “buffet” category.
Vegetarian Dishes
Most
restaurants offer a selection of non-meat dishes. We have noted in each case how
extensive the vegetarian listing is, however, those who avoid eating animal
products that includes any fats and fish extracts that may have been used in
cooking, should request “aharn jai” when visiting a restaurant, to be sure of
ordering food with no animal content. Thai Buddhist vegetarians use this term
which is generally understood by wait staff and chefs.
Use of MSG
Monosodium
glutamate, more usually known in Thailand by the brand name Ajinomoto, is used
in many Asian cuisines. The information on MSG in our listing is provided by the
restaurants themselves and we cannot guarantee its accuracy, therefore, if there
are concerns regarding the use of MSG, we suggest you address them prior to
ordering your meal when dining.
No Smoking
It is illegal to smoke in an
air-conditioned restaurant. Smoking, however, is allowed in open-air areas and
some restaurants do provide tables outside for smokers.
Credit Cards
The credit cards accepted by each
restaurant are either stated that “Major Cards” are accepted, which includes,
AE, MC, and V, or they are specifically listed. Abbreviations used are:
|
AE:
American Express |
D:
Diners Club |
MC:
Mastercard |
V:Visa |
JCB:
Japan Credit Bureau |
Ratings
The
best restaurants have been rated in at least four key areas: food, drink
(usually
wine), service, and price. Final ratings are decided upon from the reviewer’s
report plus the standard criteria we use from our rating index to rate each
restaurant fairly. Ratings are displayed at the bottom of each review through
the use of bars. Food, wine and service are rated on a scale of one to 10, while
price is rated with the average cost for dining for two persons specified. We do
not return to rate each business every year, however, we do return if we have
received some comments of concern from patrons, as well as, returning
periodically to update information.

To provide our visitors
with the finest e-guide of the best restaurants offered, we seek out the
assistance of many consultants as reviewers for the website. These people are
everyday patrons that enjoy the dining experience and usually have past
experience in the restaurant field, such as, chefs, wine enthusiast, prior
restauranteurs, or even persons whose hobby is cooking fine cuisine. We have no
fancy book authors, 5 star restaurant owners, or TV show hosts on our staff as
experts to review the restaurants. They are people who know food but are
everyday diners like you and I.
These reviewers contribute their incisive opinions on which are their favorite
restaurants and why. This encompasses many different cuisines. Even-though we
enjoy previewing restaurants that are 4 or 5 star quality, a restaurant can
also be considered for inclusion for a combination of other factors, such as,
it’s convenient location, reasonable price, or the variety of cuisine, even if
the quality of food is very good to excellent, but maybe not the most
exceptional.
Our contributors have a passion for food and/or wine, and like our website, they
have no professional connection to any of the establishments reviewed, however,
some restaurants have paid for a service to give them a premium webpage rather
than the standard page they would normally receive. At this time, we accept no
establishment advertising on our site on locations other than a businesses own
web-pages. Our reviewers dine in a restaurant, assessing quality of the food,
wine, service and price. As is our usual policy, reviewers do not identify
themselves at any time during their visit. This is an anonymous dining
experience |
