Gaon Korean Restaurant

5/F, East tower, Twin Towers, B-12, Jianguomenwai Dajie, Chaoyang

Tel: 010 5828 7099

Gaon is owned and run by a Korean ceramics company. Every meal is an exhibition of their traditional Korean earthenware while adding a modern twist. The presentation and excellent attention to detail starts as you enter the door, where diners are welcomed with a complimentary drink ...gin and tonic for men and pink fruity cocktails for the ladies, Gaon Restaurant is the first Chinese mainland venture of the Seoul-based chain, which serves high-end classic Korean cuisine. The spiciness of the cuisine is the most distinguishing feature of this restaurant. The basic seasonings, red pepper, green onion, sauce, bean paste, garlic, vinegar, ginger, sesame, mustard,  and wine have been mixed  in various methods to enhance the flavor.

Main dishes include fresh abalone with streaky pork in stone pot, braised oxtail with ginseng,  fried seafood with starch noodle and mushroom. Hairtail comes super-sized with Korean spicy sauce. Unlike many Asian countries, most Koreans put steamed rice in their spicy beef soup to add to the flavor.

Kimchi, the best-known dish in Korean food, is served here. Highly seasoned with pepper and garlic, it is served with every kind of Korean meal to stimulate the appetite.

Pulgoki, generally known as 'Korean barbecue', is marinated in a sauce made with garlic, sugar, sesame oil and other seasonings and cooked over a fire at your table. Another dish is beef or pork short ribs.

Soups in Gaon are also tasty. Spicy seafood soup is made with chicken, vegetables, bean curd, red pepper powder and quality ginseng, which makes it more expensive than most other items on the menu.
