Located along the trendy Purvis Street, Garibaldi provides a fine example of a stylish Italian eatery -modern, elegant yet friendly and dynamic. The contemporary and hip atmosphere has helped to make "Garibaldi" a classic Singapore social gathering place. Distinguished for its fascinating character and strong identity, the atmosphere in the main dining area is always stylish without being stuffy.
Garibaldi has always been up there among the top Italian restaurants in Singapore and much of the reason has been chef Roberto Galetti's classical approach to fine Italian cooking. This was exemplified in a lovely seasonal starter he served us as part of his 'leave it to me' menu, which means he prepares whatever good stuff he happens to have that day. This time, it was creamy, burratina mozarella cheese enhanced by the saltiness of thinly sliced cured beef. This was followed by warm white asparagus - steamed and slathered in creamy melted taleggio cheese and sprinkled with truffle shavings. The mild vegetable & earthy cheese made a fine combination. And finally, some nicely aged lamb, roasted rare and rosemary-scented, served with sauteed fresh porcini mushrooms and drizzled with sweet aged balsamico.
Of course, no Italian meal is complete without dessert and Garibaldi's tiramisu is an achingly rich layered concoction of mascarpone cheese and chocolate sponge cake, artfully served with a little filo pastry case filled with creamy zabaglione. |
