Wat Po Bangkok Temple of the Emerald Buddha & the Reclining Buddha

Located directly behind the Temple of the Emerald Buddha stands Wat Phra Chetuphon, more commonly known by its old name of Wat Po. Most tourists don't get past the temple's huge reclining Buddha, but actually, there is more to see than a single statuesque figure.

Much older than the city of Bangkok, the temple was founded in the 17th century, making it the oldest temple in the city. King Rama I had enlarged the temple, installing numerous statues and artifacts recovered from Ayutthaya, renaming the temple Wat Phra Chetuphon in 1801.

The lowly backpacker with holes in his sandals after trekking from India doesn't blow his budget on an expensive replacement pair, but instead, opts for a pair for 200 baht. Patpong's night market is probably the most famous of Bangkok's counterfeit havens of pirated goods, from Louis Vuitton handbags to Rolex and Cartier watches. So when you walk up and down the aisles and spot that beautiful French scarf, smart looking football jersey, or Mont Blanc pen set, if it is a name brand, it is most assuredly a fake.
