Chiang Mai Night Bazaar PDF Print E-mail

The Night Market (or Night Bazaar) is second only to the Sunday Walking Market for inexpensive Thai products. The Night Market opens around 5PM every evening and begins to close down at 11PM. Strolling through the market you'll find thousands of stalls selling everything from Thai handicrafts to suitcases, clothing, jewelry and shoes.

The Night Market is located on Chang Klan Road in the center of town. Getting there is easy by either taking a tuk-tuk or a songtaew (the open pick-ups that drive around the city and stop to pick up passengers). Start your venture of the market at one side of the street and checking out the 2 or 3 story buildings that offer hundreds of indoor stalls continue walking all the way to the end of the street.

There are places to eat everywhere and there are numerous spots in and around the market to stop and enjoy your favorite Thai food and drinks. Chiang Mai offers some dishes that are not standard menu items in other parts of Thailand, so be adventurous and try some of the great cuisine Chiang Mai has to offer.

When offering vendors to buy their goods it is expected that you will bargain. If the item is expensive, ask the vendor for his best price and then walk around the market where you will more than likely see the same item elsewhere and then you have an idea already of what the item might cost. If you say to a vendor "Will you take____ baht" or offer to pay a price and the vendor accepts that price then you are expected to purchase the item or the vendor may show he is very unhappy ...so be careful when bargaining to only ask for their best price and only make offers if you are serious about buying the item.
