It was Sunday morning and I wanted to take my girlfriend somewhere absolutely different than the usual places we've ventured in the city and I remembered my friend told me about a restaurant located near Nakorn Pathom, which many say is far to travel just to eat, but it was only a 40 minute easy drive and a sight that was more than memorable. We went across the Saphan Taksin bridge traveling straight until we got to Petkasem Road, turned left and followed it all the way to The Rose Garden, where this Thai restaurant called Inn-Chan stood. Upon driving into a grand entrance we were unaware this was a resort of 70 acres (170 rai) with magnificently manicured gardens throughout. We parked and walked around the grounds enjoying the many lovely Thai houses and gardens of beautiful flowers and trees, a lovely sight of flamingos, many birds and some beautiful parrots on display for guests. We both commented on how relaxing this place seemed to make you feel. We walked around for a couple hours, visiting a few shops located on the grounds and enjoying the beauty and peacefulness the gardens offered before actually arriving at the Inn-Chan restaurant that sits aside the Ta Chine River.
We arrived at Inn-Chan Thai restauant to find a long rectangular shaped building floating at the rivers edge. The interior was mostly dressed with wood and tables were comfortably spaced for most to enjoy the view of the flowing river.
My girlfriend and I looked at the main menu and then at each other as the first thing you'll notice are the very reasonable prices of most dishes. The menu consists of about 7 appetizers, 7 Thai salads, a dozen soups and curries, a few spicy dips, 7 dishes of shrimps and prawns, about 4 veggies, 7 types of fish and squid dishes, at least 8 types of beef, chicken or pork, about 10 rice & noodle dishes and 5 desserts. There are monthly specials for both lunch and dinner, some healthy vegetarian items and even a western menu with everything from hamburgers to pepper steak. There are cocktails, of course, and a limited list of wines from France, Italy & Chile. If you like, there is a house wine offered by the glass.
We began our lunch with an appetizer of "Sweet Meats in Golden Web" and an order of the "Golden Bags with Crab Stuffing". We sat for almost an hour, having a nice conversation, enjoying some beer and staring at the islands of water hyacinths gently floating down the river before we ordered our main dish. First up was the "Shrimp Paste with Green Peppercorns and Vegetables served with Fried Mackerel" plus an order of "Chicken in Toey Leaves". And the last item that we would share was the "Fresh Water King Prawns fried with Garlic and Green Peppercorns" and they were delicious as was all the dishes we selected. After our lunch we decided to share a dessert …we chose the "Ta Go Hell". Served as wedges in a wheel. Each section was wrapped in a pandaman leaf and had a topping of coconut milk that covered a green tasty Pandaman Jelly with pieces of water chestnut inside. The food was fantastic and the ambiance is something that must be experienced as the atmosphere is so tranquil and relaxing that one doesn't want to leave.
