This great spot for Northern Indian cuisine is located between Sukhumvit soi 21 (Asoke) and soi 23. It is less than a 5 minute walk from either the Asoke BTS or MRT station. Entering the restaurant, one finds an interior that carries a straight forward ambiance with no fancy spectacles or surprises. There are Indian tapestries hanging on the walls and runners that decorate the cieling.
The cuisine is authentic with a menu that is very typical northern Indian style. The full bar offers all the popular imported and local beers (as beer seems to be the best drink to accommodate Indian food), bar drinks, juices, soft drinks, and some of the best lassi drinks in town.
My dinner date and myself were looking forward to this dinner as neither of us have enjoyed Indian cuisine for quite some time. She and I started with a Mango Lassi drink while we checked out the menu. The fresh mango was smooth and delicious ...I ordered a second before the food even arrived. From a list of 8 appetizers and 8 soups we started our meal with "Vegetable Samosa", filled with potato, peas and corn. The sauces were fantastic as the homemade mango chutney was exceptional complement to the dish. The next item to arrive was "Tandoori Chicken", a whole chicken delicately spiced and marinated in yogurt and then prepared in a traditional tandoori. Along with the chicken was a dish of "Prawn Karahi", a generous selection of fresh prawns, subtly spiced in herbs with tomato and coriander and then fried with butter in a special Karahi. The last course was "Murgh Tikka Masala", another boneless chicken dish, this one offering a delicately cooked sauce of spicy herbs. Complementing our main courses was an order of "Chicken Biryani", three large pieces of mildly spiced chicken mixed with colorful pullov rice. Of course our meal also consisted of fresh "Butter Naan" which arrived hot at our table thru-out our meal. This meal was enough for three and we felt like we couldn't eat another bite but we were here to celebrate my dinner guest's birthday and I could not resist ordering her dessert. I ordered the "Banana Split" and being a nice guy I helped her finish this dish as well. Our dinner was massive and reflecting on our meal it is no exaggeration to say every dish was authentic northern Indian and offered a fine taste as a result of the homemade sauces. We were a bit surprised how this excellent taste and quality of food is offered at a very reasonable price. This restaurant is definitely a great choice for Indian cuisine in Bangkok.
