Firstly, the name Kongju means "princess" in Korean and the restaurant is justly located on the second floor of the Pathumwan Princess Hotel. Touches of Korea are felt throughout the restaurant and there are big comfortable booths large enough for 4 persons. Each table has a traditional charcoal stove that let's you know this restaurant's specialty is grilled table top cooking.

This restaurant is truly a team effort as the manager and the executive chef have both been on-board since it's first day in 1997. The great success of the restaurant is largely due to them. Geo Jeol Pan is a plate of assorted appetisers of shredded chicken, crab, carrot, mushrooms and pickles which you wrap up in a tiny pancake and pop into your mouth. Mo Deum Jeon, fat pan-fried oysters with fish, prawns and mushrooms is another excellent way to start your meal. The selection of barbecue set meals here is an inticing one; prime rib-eye steak, Norwegian salmon, pork spare rib, beef tongue, prawns and other seafood as the real story here is definitely the barbecue and the fine meats. You may select beef, pork, chicken, seafood or vegetables for grilling over your table-top stove, and do not forget to add the Norwegian salmon. They offer a Korean pickled stew, Kimchi Tchigae, which is a favorite among Thai's and some foreigners alike. At the same time, I must tell you about the Krol Gam Tang, beef ox-tail soup, that was a delicious hot soup.

Afterward, you may wish to enjoy their Iced Red Date Tea is a perfect way to finish this meal. The list of wines is a bit deceiving as there are a host of selections that do not include the name of the producer/vineyard and that is unacceptable when asking top prices for wine. There are a few lovely wines at a good value, not much in the way of Korean liquors but a great choice of Japanese sake and wine.

The service is provided by attractively dressed staff. You are first greeted by a hostess in a magnificent reception area and service throughout is quick and polite evenduring the restaurant's rush hours. Dining here with 4 or more people is recommended so diners may sample many grilled items.
