This snazzy Japanese eatery offers a dark wood interior with rice paper lanterns, kabuki prints and heavy jade crockery. A modern touch is reflected with long, lean sushi bars and mirrors.
For a quick lunchtime bite that's still a sit-down meal, there are the sashimi and oyakoni set ($140) offering a sashimi platter of salmon, yellowtail and sweet shrimp, followed by grilled chicken with mixed vegetables in egg sauce. The duck breast salad with tuna and salmon don ($160) says it all - sliced duck breast with a sweet vinaigrette salad, and chopped tuna and salmon with spring onion and spicy sauce atop Japanese rice. Compact but filling is the lunchbox ($150) of seafood, cucumber, avocado and tomato salad, salmon and yellowtail sashimi, deep-fried calamari, salmon, scallops & spring onion, and vegetable curry.
Appetizers are worth trying, especially the house special roll, that comes with plenty deep-fried soft shell crab, avocado, cucumber and crab roe. A great value are the sushi and sushimi plates. Hot selections include teriyaki, tempura, soup and noodles.
The wine and sake list isn't extensive but does offer a full range of prices. Beer however, seems to be the best choice and there are many varieties.
Staff seem to often be pre-occupied but are friendly and helpful when you do get them to respond. |
