A relaxed Italian atmosphere with inside and outside seating. Separated by large windows, an additional smaller room allows guests the pleasure to smoke while dining. The friendly Italian restaurant is ownd and managed by the same family as it's award-winning sister restauant in Bangkok. They use, of course, an authentic wood fire-oven to assure the best tasting pizza.
There are many choices for food in Pattaya, however, we were told by a couple local friends that "LA PIOLA" is a great choice for those craving Italian. "No fancy, shmancy …just good Italian food". That was exactly what we were looking for. On the way, we ran into a friend from Bangkok and invited him to join us for Italian food. We arrived early on a Friday evening to be greeted by a hostess and although the outside dining area semed popular with guests, we chose the inside dining area as it was quiet, air-conditioned and offers lovely Italian background music.
There is an excellent selection of wine and we chose a moderately priced bottle of red to start our evening. We started off the meal with a traditional style "Antipasti", a nice selection of cold-cuts, mozzarella, olives and condiments. The three of us then shared two main courses. First, "Torellini with Ricotta and Spinach", and the other dish was the "Rigatoni Bolognese" a pasta served with an excellent meat sauce and an excellent introduction to our pizza. We couldn't resist the "Diavola", covered with mozzarella, black olives, and a generous portion of imported spicy salami. The pizza is prepared in a wood fire-oven, and is …very delicious. The food was more than enough for the three of us but we looked forward to our order of homemade "Tiramisu". It arrived and it was excellent, of course.
The restaurant offers diners complete set menus and a large menu with a la carte items that includes at least 15 types of traditional pasta and 20 different pizzas.
Warsteiner beer is on tap with Singha, Carlsberg, and Heineken in the bottle. The wine list hosts an extensive list of Itailan selections starting at very reasonable prices. There are also a few bar drinks, a lovely Limoncello and a full selection of Grappas. |
