A lovely two-story renovated home, Mes Amis is situated amongst some very elegant residences. Guests who travel on the BTS will find it convenient to depart at Thong Lo and walk up Sukhumvit Soi 53 to Thong Lo soi 5 which is only a 5 minute walk from the BTS station while patrons that drive to the restaurant will find more than ample parking.
Mes Amis is the creation of two ladies that met while training at the renowned Le Cordon Bleu culinary school in France who paired up to open a restaurant that offers innovative dishes with French flavors at it's best. Their restaurant boasts a confortable and relaxing atmosphere. The interior offers a white-on-white decor with sunlight defused through cloth covered windows. The bar is located just inside the front door and offers all your standard bar drinks. The wine cellar, with it's selection of more than 100 great choices of wine, most from France, makes it one of the best in Bangkok. The mezzanine floor offers a gallery of art while the rooftop terrace offers romantic outdoor dining and an air-conditioned enclosed smoking room that is available for parties or meetings.
My dining companion and I started the evening with a bottle of Bordeaux and anxiously awaited our appetizers. Arriving provencale style, an order of delectable charcoal grilled sea scallops on scallop shells was a great way to start the evening for my date. I, in turn opted for the Mes Amis signature dish that seems to be a favorite with most persons as I saw the Crab Claw Salad being delivered to many patrons. It was beautifully presented with its crabmeat mixed with onions & tomato served on a bed of mixed salad with a perfectly matched fresh herb dressing. It was definintely a good choice. My dinner date chose the Oven-Roasted Leg of Duck with an excellent mandarin orange sauce while I chose the Charcoal grilled Lamb Chops with pumpkin puree and a smooth and tasty meaux mustard sauce. Each dish was melt-in-your-mouth delicious but we were not finished as now it was time for dessert. My companion selected the Warm Chocolate Soft Cake served with a sauce of vanilla and mixed berries. I selected the traditional Vanilla Bean Creme Brulee, better than I expected, this fine custard dessert was indescribable.
Lunch offers a 3-course and 4-course set while dinner has a delicious 4-course set meal. The wine cellar definitely offers an impeccably chosen range of French wines with, apart from Bordeaux and Burgundy, a good vintage selection of the world's best producing wine regions. As far as service is concerned, they are exceedingly attentive, have a good command of english and more than happy to offer assistance or recommend dishes and wines.
