Mondeva is located in the Baan Deva Montra Resort & Spa with tropical gardens at the foot of Doi Suthep. Its pleasant outdoor atmosphere is the main attraction, as simple as it may be, although the dining room shelters guests from the rain.
Dishes are part of a weekly menu, which changes four times a month. As expected from a fusion of Thai, Chinese and western delicacies, prepared according to the best kept secrets from granny's recipes, the Thai cuisine arrives with a surprisingly creative twist. The pork sarong appetiser, usually comprises balls of spiced minced pork wrapped with egg noodle and deep-fried, uses northern Thai pickled pork. Miang goong, is a twist on the traditional miang kham, using a selection of northern herbs & spices with a tasty shrimp sauce wrapped in a large noodle skin and accompanied by royal project fresh vegetables. Baan Deva Montra fish is deepfried with Thai herbs. Thee are unusual dishes, such as, spare ribs masala with roti, Thai taco, cheese spring rolls and other intriguing choices which are each delightful.
The wine list is fairly ordinary, offering reasonably priced table wines from both the old and new world varieties.
Baan Deva Montra offers home-style, hands-on cooking courses taught by the resort owner herself, Khun Sumalya, who teaches the ins and outs of cooking Asian cuisine. |
