Wood & stone flooring and window screens adorn this large split-level restaurant.
A comprehensive menu of teppanyaki, tempura, sushi, nagiri, makimono (rolled sushi that includes my favorites California- Maki and Tekka-Maki), sashimi, hot pot dishes of shabu shabu and sukiyaki, yakimono (broiled) and agemono (deep-fried dishes), nooddles; and Japanese porridge are all featured. Aoi Kaiseki is the traditional Japanese set dinner that consists of appetisers, soup, sashimi with simmered and broiled dishes, soya bean soup, rice, pickles and dessert for $150 per person. Guests are given a menu that lists each of the Kaiseki meals while set dinners include an eel course, a beef and Wagyu teriyaki beef course, and a Shangri-La special set dinner. Wagyu style beef sukiyaki is a favorite with finely sliced beef and various vegetables cooked in an iron pan with special Sukiyaki sauce served at the table with an appetizer, steamed rice, pickles, and soya bean soup.
Dessert offers traditional choices, such as, green tea ice cream with red beans and a platter of assorted fruit. Being in a quality hotel affords this Japanese restaurant the availability of their comprehensive wine list although the restaurants list is mainly New World varietals. There is a wide choice of hot and cold sake. |
