Hidden on the canal separating China and Macau, this lively, open-air, pavilion restaurant is on the tiny main square of Coloane Village, dominated by the charming Chapel of St. Francis Xavier and makes the trip to Coloane worthwhile.

The food, which combines Chinese and Macanese styles of cooking and ingredients, is in a category all its own, with many unique dishes not available anywhere else. Try the clams in black bean and chilli sauce, salt-and-pepper shrimp, scallops with broccoli, or crab curry. If poultry is your favorite, the chicken in an earthen pot, grilled duck with lemon sauce, or steamed chicken with garlic, are equally delicious. For drinks, most people seem to accompany this great food with Portuguese wine (there are a few French selections) or fresh fruit juice. This little gem is also a great spot for lunch, with fried prawns seasoned with garlic and chilies and a plate of beef chow mein, and washed down with a cold Tsing Tao or your favorite international beer.

Only 2500 people live on Coloane, and they all seem to know each other. Residents constantly duck in and out of the cafe, greeting neighbors and colleagues, swapping gossip, joining friends for drinks or a meal which makes it a good place to rub elbows with the natives and for a few hours, you'll feel like a part of the community. All in all, the cafe lives up to its name, which translates roughly as "A Good Place to Relax Cafe."
