For those people who have not been to Paradise, the restaurant has a tropical ambience with huge handpainted rainforest murals that scale the high ceilings, green foliage outside the large picture windows that screens diners from the street outside. The quality furniture with duo covered tablecloths help create the mood, but what sets this restaurant apart from others is the "menu". Amongst a complete selection of International and Swiss delights, not to mention a complete menu of Thai dishes, are the fantastic selection of exotic dishes that not only is unavailable in any other restaurant in Thailand, but are available at extremely reasonable prices. During the four years that Paradise Restaurant has been in operation, Hans Banziger, the "hans-on" owner, has been instrumental in pushing his concept of revolving special promotions, with the most popular items eventually finding their way into the regular menu. In this way the restaurant menu is continuously evolving and makes for pleasant surprises for first time diners as well as new features every month for his regular customers.
While looking over the menu, We sipped the Kir Paradise pre-dinner cocktail, which has champagne, cassis and lychees while my wife and I offered our two guests our suggestions of dishes we've enjoyed in the past couple years we've been visiting the restaurant. We started the evening off with appetizers. From a choice of about 15 hot & cold selections, I had the "Smoked Norwegian Salmon" and my wife again had the "Deep-fried Camenbert". Our friends enjoyed a "Greek Salad" and an order of the "Chef-Style Mussels", sauteed in butter, onions & white wine. Although many menu favorites looked delicious, we were here for the exotic delights as I couldn't wait to again enjoy the "Exotic Quartet", which is a sampler of kangaroo, ostrich, emu and crocodile. The crocodile steak is marinated in a Cajun seasoning with sesame seeds and lime butter. The taste is a cross between chicken and veal and Hans experimented with 10 recipes before settling on this particular one. My wife tried the "Ostrich Fillet", with a Remy Martin and green peppercorn sauce while my friend Dave had the "Exotic Trio" a selection of kangaroo, ostrich and crocodile. His wife was less adventurous but enjoyed a lovely dish of "Sole Tropicana". My wife and I shared a bottle of Cabernet from Chile which was their monthly wine promotion and a bargain for 790 baht. Our friends each drank beer as their selection includes all the major brands. We decided to share a couple desserts and selected the "Hot Apple Fritter" which was served with vanilla ice-cream and we also chose the "Crepe Paradise" that also came with vanilla ice-cream and fresh passion fruit. The exotic choices can't be found elsewhere, especially at these prices, making this the place to come for those quality meat dishes. The restaurant offers a full bar and a Thai menu that includes more than 25 selections.
