Ruen Mallika is housed in an historic early 19th century teak building, secluded from the bustle of the city outside. The ground floor is suited for groups while upstairs patrons remove their shoes and sit on cushions on the floor.
Photos introduce patrons to menu choices and include some unusual selections. Few patrons have enjoyed the taste of herbs wrapped in Chinese broccoli leaf, with a sour flavor and tiny cubed lemons, garlic, onion, and chillies to accompany coconut shavings and peanuts and miniature dried shrimp. Another unusual dish is the crunchy deep-fried flowers, dipped in batter and fried. The menu also includes standard Thai choices, such as, fried chicken with cashew nut (mamuang himapan), Seared Ostrich with chilli and stir-fried stemless morning glory in a chilli sauce. There is also squid with garlic and pepper and stuffed with ground pork while the pork spare ribs with Chinese broccoli is a favorite. To complete the meal, the fruit plate of grapes, pineapple, watermelon and more is recommended. |
