Located next to Mike's Shopping Complex, between Soi 10 and 11, the restaurant sits directly on Beach Road facing the sea. Access to the restaurant is simple enough, either entering from Second Road at Tipp Plaza or from Beach Road to the oversized car parking area behind the restaurant. The restaurant seats about 70 persons and is pleasantly furnished with large tables, soft cream wallpaper and black marble style flooring. The view is, needless to say, absolutely beautiful as you can sit near the window and enjoy the beautiful beachfront directly across the street.
The name "SHER E PUNJAB" meaning the Lion of Punjab was a title given to Maharaja Ranjit Singh, born Nov 2, 1780. Upon his fathers death he assumed the thrown at the tender age of 10. He was skilled in horseback riding & weaponry and his court was always filled with able generals. He built an extremely loyal and powerful force and was considered a humble man and very popular for his charity. His forces numbered 123,000 foot & horseback soldiers at the time of his death in 1839.
There's less than a handful of true Indian restaurants in Pattaya and as "SHER E PUNJAB" Indian restaurants around the world reflect, each is an example of quality northern Indian cuisine prepared by skilled chefs from India.
Our group of seven persons arrived early enough to view the sea from our table before and after sunset. First up was drinks, of course. While one couple shared a bottle of wine, the rest of us opted for various types of beer with one person trying the Indian beer. We decided to each select one or two interesting dishes from the menu; we started with 2 orders of "Samosa", an order of "Tandoori Prawn" which was marinated in a special ground masala cooked in a clay oven. Next up, the "Bhaji", which is available with onion or mushrooms which is prepared in a batter and deep-fried. With that our order of "Shish Kabob" and the "Chicken Tikka" arrived. We also chose the "Aloo Tikki" which has potatoes with onions & spices lightly fried and shaped like fat potato pancakes plus a couple dishes of "Peas Pullao" which is rice with peas. The dishes of "Garlic Naan" ( bread) just couldn't stay filled as we all kept grabbing before the last piece would disappear. Soon, the "Chana Masala" arrived along with a clay pot of "Butter Chicken" which is cooked in a rich Indian gravy. There was also "Chicken Tikka Masala" which is Tandoori chicken with curry and spices and a order of "Aloo Gobi" a dish with potatoes & cauliflower cooked punjab style. Before long, we knew we ordered enough for an army but we ate every morsel of food and as we bid farewell we were already contimplating dishes to try when we return. |
