Coming from Sukhumvit the restaurant is just a 5 minute walk from the Phrom Phong BTS station and sits just beyond the Ariston Hotel. Sitting directly on the soi, the restaurant offers a very casual atmosphere of traditional Japanese dining with dark wooden tables and chairs that seat about 80 persons total and a private function room for special occasions or meetings.

Three fellow co-workers and I headed out to enjoy dinner together and after a discussion of the cuisine of the evening, Japanese food was the choice. I have been to numerous Japanese restaurants during my stay in Bangkok but I still get a bit anxious when Japanese cuisine is the choice for the evening. I suggested we try "SHIRO" as it was recommended to me as a great place to dine with very reasonable prices. Upon entering, we were immediately greeted and escorted to our table of choice. There is a nice sushi bar that seats 6 persons and I really enjoy watching the spectacular talents of the sushi chef but the ladies won over as they preferred a table by the window. Since all three of us were amateurs at Japanese cuisine, we chose to select items to share that we were fond of and the huge menu offered many of our favorites. With pictures of many of the selections, the menu offers an extensive choice of sushi and sashimi. I was very impressed to find that many items on the menu are flown in fresh every week, such as, the seaweed, and many of the selections of fish like the hokkigai and shishamo.

Our meal started with a beer and as the selections of food started to arrive we switched to Japanese sake. The first dishes to appear were "Salmon Steak" and a dish of "Nagiri" that offered some wonderful choices of sushi, such as, tuna, squid, red snapper, shrimp, some sweet egg and miso soup. We also added "Zaru Soba", which is cold noodles with tomato and cucumber and a sweet sauce to pour overtop along with an order of "Ten Don", Japanese rice with prawn and vegetable. We were really enjoying ourselves when the 5 pieces of "California Maki" arrived ...this has always been one of my favorites sushi selections. Our meal was not yet complete as we also enjoyed an order of "Thai Beef Steak" that came with vegetables along with a bowl of "Udon Tempura" or noodle soup. Everything was delicious, we had a great dining experience while being pleasantly surprised by the prices, and we thank our accomodating hostess.. This one is a must try with Japanese cuisine in a simple yet un-intimidating atmosphere.
