On the Chao Phraya River with views of the Grand Palace, the restaurant sits in a traditional Thai house offering diners the option of dining al fresco in candle light or in an air conditioned dining room. An added touch to the cultural aspect is a Khon masked dance every Friday and Saturday night staged by the Patravadi Theatre, next door, which belongs to the same owners.
The menu is large and varied with Thai and seafood and the standout dishes are definitely the fish choices. Great starters include the salmon satay with peanut sauce and cucumber in vinegar or try the hors d'oeuvre Supatra, a combination of deep-fried shrimp wrapped in rice nopodle, tuna in crispy cups and spring roll with veggies. For fish lovers, the freshness of the steamed sea bass is complemented by the delicate taste of the soy or spicy lemon sauce. There is also deep-fried garoupa with chilli sauce, both highly recommended. Other great dishes; hot soups and curries are a must. Try the salmon in fresh green curry or the green curry with seafood, both served in lovely banana leaf bowls. Other favorites include, spicy fried pla khang with kaffir lime leaves, sweet basil, young peppercorn and galangal while the deep-fried red snapper with sweet and sour sauce is fresh and perfectly crispy. For those wanting to end their meal on a sweet note there are traditional Thai desserts.
There is a short but good list of both old and new world wine at a range of prices. So enjoy a sauvignon blanc (usually goes well with seafood) with your meal. |
