Another converted house, this one being on a side street off Silom. A contemporary interior with comfortable seating of silk covered sofas with colorful cushions and artwork covering the red and butterscotch colored walls.
Thai food is authentic with unique home-style dishes not often found. The menu is very large with a version with photographs for those not familiar with Thai cuisine. Start with a recommended appetizer, tod mun tong muan, offering crispy vegetables rolled up inside fish cakes. Choices also include a large variety of yum (Thai spicy salads), Taling Pling hors d’oeuvres, and sun-dried king mackerel in sesame. For main courses, there are numerous creative dishes. If you are a fan of Thai curry, try the beef green curry served with roti or the fillet of sea bass in a mild red curry sauce. Other dishes not to be missed are stir-fried soft-shell crab with basil, oyster omelette on hot plate, and very good stir-fried gourd leaves with oyster sauce. Surprisingly enough, unlike many Thai restaurants, Taling Pling has an outstanding dessert menu which includes a good variety of Thai and western desserts, cakes and home-made ice creams. Try the chocolate brownie cake, or the home-made coffee raisin ice cream, which are both excellent ways to finish your meal.
The two page wine menu offers a fair choice of white and red wines from Europe, Chile and Australia plus a few champagnes. House wines (vin de table) are reasonably priced at 150 baht per glass or 430 baht per carafe.
