Located some distance along Samsen Road, across the Sung Hee (Krungthon) Bridge and just behind the Wachira Hospital, Tara Tara, formally the Baan Khun Luang restaurant offers an exceptional view of the Chao Phraya river. The building is spacious and air-conditioned and has a hostess at the reception desk while the second floor looks out over the terrace and the river. There is a pond and a walkway that was recently built in front of the building and the downstairs open terrace is large enough to assure the restaurant can accommodate 1,000 persons. Every evening there is a boat cruise that leaves at 7:30PM offering patrons a two hour cruise that travels down the river as far as the Sathorn Bridge (Saphan Taksin). There is a 100 baht supplement for the cruise and then guests order from an a la carte menu.
Food on the terrace or inside the air-conditioned building is served a la carte, however, you may decide to select from the various stations that offer seafood. You can watch the food being prepared on the barbecue in a very traditional manner with bamboo spits and raging flames. Some menu favorites for dinner that we selected were: The house salad, a special of the house, not to spicy. Shrimp with mixed vegetables in hot and sour soup, filled with plump prawns contrasted by the taste of tamarind. Next, a meaty tasting baked crab with glass noodles and the centerpiece of the meal was German-style pork knuckle ... This is one of the restaurants signature dishes and one of the most popular choices on the menu. The restaurant is relatively quiet and low key, without loud music or shows to drowned out your conversation or spoil the romantic ambiance.
There is also a buffet lunch served from 11:00AM to 2:30PM daily at 140 baht.
