I was only in Pattaya for a couple days but I was told that Tequila Reef Cantina had the best margaritas around. The place is easy enough to find as it sits on Soi 7, about 40 metres from the beach so my buddy Paul and I gravitated there as soon as work was finished for the day. The wooden entrance looks like something in an old California surf movie or a place you might find sitting on the side of the road in Baja California or northern Mexico. Once inside the fun begins. There are televisions mounted around the place so you can enjoy your favorite sporting events and there's tons of memorabilia hanging from the cieling and mounted on the walls. The bar runs lengthwise and offers all your favorite shooters and specialty drinks. Beer includes all your favorites, including Corona and, of course, there are well drinks and premium spirits. Most famous seems to be the Margaritas and Daiquiris available by the glass or pitcher. Besides the delicious frozen selections, there are fresh fruit varieties as well. The one that seems to get the most attention is the "Hand Shaken Margarita" where a lot more than the margarita seems to shake.
They may call the place Tequila Reef but they offer a lot more than great Mexican food on the menu. It starts with appetizers, and from a choice of about 10 selections, my buddy Paul had the "Reefer Madness" an appetizer sampler with cheese nachos, quesadilla, tequila wings, and taquitos while I had the "Sloppy Nachos" with Ancho chili con carne and melted cheddar cheese. We were each ready to try a margarita rather than another beer. Paul had the "Blue Lagoon" made with Bols Blue Caracao Tequila and Lime Juice and I had the signature; "Blended Frozen Mango Margarita". What can I say? They were refreshing and delicious. There are about a half-dozen choices for soup & salad and then the steaks, ribs, chicken and duck are listed. Many even talk about the burger here being one of the best in town. Thai food has it's place on the menu as well with many of the most popular dishes available. There's some Mexican plates of burritos and fajitas and I couldn't resist. I chose the sizzling "Steak Fajitas" (but you can also have chicken, carnitas pork or snapper). They are served with onions, peppers, rice, beans, sour cream, salsa fresca and flour tortillas. You pile it all on the fajita just the way you like it. Paul selected a "1/2 Rack of Ribs". They were bbq'd to perfection. Large meaty ribs with lots of meat that just fell off the bone after being marinated all afternoon and slowly cooked. They were a winner. This place is fun, has exceptional drinks and great food ...What else is there. So, come on, stop by!
