At the corner of Rama 4 Road and Silom Road sits the Dusit Thani Hotel, one of the most prestigious hotels in Bangkok. On the mezzanine floor is "Thien Duong" a visually pleasant Vietnamese restaurant that serves authentic style Vietfnamese cuisine.
Friends invited my girlfriend and I for dinner to enjoy some great Vietnamese food at "Thien Duong's" so we were ready for a great evening. We decided to eat Thai-style, or Vietnamese for that matter, and share everything that we ordered as is often done in the Vietnamese or Thai home. We first ordered a reasonably priced bottle of a French bordeaux and then negotiated the choices on the menu. For appetizers, the "Thien Duong Khai VI", a combination of fresh Spring Rolls, beef in "Good King Henry" Leaves, Sugarcane Skewer of Shrimp, and Charcoal Grilled Pork balls was our first choice and our second was Cha Gio, Fried Spring Rolls Stuffed with Chicken, Shrimp, Pork and Transparent Vermicelli. We had no problem devouring the two delightful dishes. Each couple selected a salad. We chose the Fresh Mushroom Salad with Spicy Dressing while the other couple selected the Lotus Stem Salad with Shrimp and Pork. As expected, we all enjoyed a taste of both salads. We passed on soup although there's about 5 to choose from. The seafood looked so attractive, it made it difficult to select just one dish so we decided on the Deep-fried whole Flounder Fish with Toasted Peanuts and Spicy Lemongrass Dip as the first choice. Our second selection was the Char-broiled Seabass Fillet in Banana Leaves with Chili Paste. For our last seafood selection, we chose "Tom Bao", Deep-fried Prawns with Sesame Seeds and Garlic Sauce. Our last main dish was the Lemongrass Skewer of Beef Tenderloin with Green Pepper. We accompanied our main courses with an order of "Com Sen", a special Vietnamese Fried Rice with Prawns, Chicken and Asparagus encased in Lotus Leaf and a dish of "Bun Gao Xao Bo", Fried Noodle with Beef and Black Bean Sauce. After all this, we shared two desserts, the "Banh Dua", Green Tea Custard with Sesame Wafer and the "Kem Chuoi", Banana Fritters wtih Vanilla Ice Cream. The seafood was tender and every entree had just the right amount of spices to enhance the maximum flavor of each dish. Everyone enjoyed the food and had a wonderful time!
The Dusit Thani offers a superb selection of wines to enhance your dining experience. We found the prices very reasonable for a restaurant of this caliber. |
