Located in a beautifully restored 1940's link house at the base of Bukit Ceylon, Yoko's exudes a charm & vitality that it is uniquely its own.
The charmingly petite courtyard of pebbly stones and wooden walkway, framed by potted plants extends a tropical welcome. And as you enter this 1940's building, the sense of history is pervasive with the high ceiling-beams, a rustic wooden staircase and tiled floor. You can choose to lounge on a sofa, or sit at its long bar, dine formally at a table or outdoors on the patio.
Yoko, the elegant and gracious owner of this restaurant, with her designing background, has imbued this pre-war house with subtle Balinese touches and textures. Wood, rattan and stone are thoughtfully used to create clean lines and a relaxed ambience.
The cuisine is predominantly Japanese with a flourish of fusion accents. Great for those who are beginners at raw fish, try Tuna Carpaccio as the marinade and dressing takes away the raw edge of the fish. Try any of the selection of sushi, sashimi, and tempura to some amazing new creations. From the bar counter, expect a variety of Japanese beer, Shojyu and Chinese beer, besides the usual bar service. The bar is an interesting and functional decor piece with a rough stone top. A live Japanese jazz band entertains on Fridays and Saturdays from 8:30pm, with different groups scheduled every weekend. The sounds are eclectic with a range from languid lingerings to rousing rhythms. |
