Stunning views over Victoria Harbor are one of the features of this fine restaurant that sits on the
second floor of the InterContinental Hong Kong. There are some restaurants where you know,
from the moment you enter, that they've got their Ying and Yang right. Well,"Yu" Restaurant is
one of these. Seafood is their forte, but the place is much more than that. The restaurant has a
sushi bar, specialising in the freshest Japanese morsels.
On entering you see a huge curved wall of glass behind which a ballet of bubbles dramatically
dance to the surface, highlighting the two vast fish tanks. One contains river trout flown in from
Australia, the other, multi-hued ocean fish from the reefs of Malaysia and the Philippines. That's
the Ying.
The Yang is the superb seafood served here. Oysters freshly flown in from France, USA,
Scotland, and Canada join Boston lobster, Iranian caviar, New Zealand mussels, and Asian
reef fish on Yu's outstanding menu. We start with the spectacular Seafood platter that is a
splendid appetizer. Then we ordered Boston Lobster in black bean sauce. Tasty and just
spicy enough, it was served with fine egg noodles. Then came The Paella. Served in a silver
dish, studded with tender calamari and delicious scallops ..unbelievable. Sea-grass pasta with
prawns and baby octopus and vegetables with dill and a tomato based salsa could not be
faulted. The dessert, Glazed Apple-cake with red fruit and ice-cream rounded off a truly
splendid meal with the added bonus of the view across the harbor.
The final touch were the chocolates, shaped like fish, they came with the coffee. |
